Case Study One: Reactive Strategy To Clear Path & Growth.

My Role

Business Strategist (Business Strategy Audit)

Before the Strategy Audit.

Before the strategy audit, Co Thought Digital knew our services were delivering strong value: our clients were happy, referrals were coming in, and we were consistently busy. However, the business was operating in a largely reactive way rather than being guided by a clear strategic direction.

Our key challenges were:

1. Positioning and focus We had a general sense of what we were good at, but not a sharp, differentiated proposition in the market. It wasn’t fully clear which type of client, problem, or service should be at the centre of our focus.

2. Growth model and priorities We were confident we wanted to grow, but we lacked clarity on the best path to get there and which initiatives to prioritise.

3. Capacity versus ambition Much of the business depended on a small number of people being very hands-on. We were often operating at full capacity, which made it difficult to step back, think strategically, and build the systems and processes needed for sustainable growth.

After the Strategy Audit.

The report has shifted us from a vague sense that “we should be more strategic” to a clear, practical roadmap. We now have a grounded, step‑by‑step view of what to prioritise, what to de‑emphasise, and how to evolve Co Thought Digital in a more intentional and focused way. We’re significantly clearer than before, but there are still a few strategic choices we need to reflect on further and test in practice.

The key takeaway for me was recognising, as the founder, that I need to consistently carve out time to work on the business, not just in the business.

The most valuable parts of the strategy audit for us were:

1) Positioning & Ideal Client Clarity. The way Mary articulated our best‑fit clients, the problems we’re strongest at solving, and where we’re genuinely differentiated felt very grounding. It gave us language and structure for things we had only informally understood before.

2) Recommendations & Priority Actions. The prioritised recommendations, rather than generic advice, were particularly helpful. Having a clear “do these first” sequence has transformed a lot of our vague intentions into a concrete, actionable roadmap.

It helped us turn a general sense that “we should be more strategic” into a clear, practical plan for the business. Specifically, it: 1) Sharpened our positioning and ideal client focus, so we’re clearer about who we’re for and what we’re best at. 2) Gave us a prioritised set of actions, so we know what to do first instead of trying to fix everything at once. 3) Created space to step back from the day‑to‑day, see the bigger picture, and make more intentional decisions about how we grow.

Final Words.

I’d describe Mary's approach and style as:

Structured and clear – The strategy audit is logically organised, easy to follow, and flows smoothly from diagnosis to insight to recommendation. It’s clear there is a strong underlying structure guiding everything shared.

Thoughtful and perceptive – Mary has clearly taken the time to understand the nuances of Co Thought Digital, not just the surface‑level details. The way Mary identified underlying patterns and tensions shows real depth of thought.

Constructively challenging – Mary don’t shy away from naming hard truths or highlighting where we’re diluted or unfocused, but it never feels harsh or critical for its own sake. The challenge is always in service of helping us move forward.

Practical and action‑oriented – The recommendations are specific, usable, and grounded in our context, rather than abstract theory. Mary translates strategic ideas into tangible next steps we can realistically implement.

Mary helped turn a loose feeling of “we should be more strategic” into something concrete and workable - clearer positioning, a sharper sense of our ideal clients, and a focused set of priorities. Mary's approach is structured and thoughtful, but also very grounded in the reality of how the business actually operates. She's willing to point out where things are diluted, yet it feels constructive and aimed at helping us move forward. Most importantly, the outcomes are practical and usable day‑to‑day. I look forward to putting them into practice!

My Role

Strategic Consulting

Business

Product & Service Based Business

Before the Strategy Consulting.

I was struggling with understanding the toy/digital download side of the business (alongside my service/tuition side) and needed help, guidance and support on how to increase the sales here. Mary's experience in service and product businesses caught my attention as many coaches either do one or the other.

Before working together, my marketing and visibility on my toys business had no clear strategy. I didn't understand how to sell these toys and digital downloads without saying "please buy this" on social media and didn't have any clear path forward.

After the Strategy Consulting.

After working with Mary, I now understand my customer user journey. I understand who my customer is and how I need to speak to them online. I know more about how to show up and what I should be saying when I show up. More importantly, I'm ever so clear on my user statement, my values and what I am offering my customers.

I'm very confident on who my customer is, why they would buy from me and where they are. I'm clear on how to sell to them, how to engage with them and how to communicate with them online, on my email and in other places too.

Mary was phenomenal at quickly understanding my business and giving real, practical advice on what to do that will move the needle forward. She did her homework beforehand and came to the session prepared with examples of what I'm already doing, and how to make these better and even suggested new ways to do things. For me visibility was a key talking point on my toys and how to use different channels. Mary understood this well and helped me break down my issues into actionable steps that I went away and implemented.

Final Words.

Mary was great at listening and advising. I really liked how she created a report about my business first, which was shared with me and I could ask questions about it. She even did a competitor analysis which was really useful for me to see. I felt her style of explaining was great, she asked questions, gave suggestions and allowed me time to think and digest too.

I would 100% recommend working with Mary. Her style and approach is personable and human. I felt like I was getting eyes on my business and personalised support rather than a one-size fits all approach. Mary went into a lot of detail explaining different elements and levers I have in my business and how to use them effectively.
